Lucca is a jewel of medieval and Renaissance architecture, famous for its completely intact city walls. Accompanied by an expert guide, you will visit part of the Renaissance walls, a monumental ring of over 4 kilometers transformed into a hanging park and one of the best-preserved fortifications in Europe; Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, built on the remains of an ancient Roman amphitheater, the square retains its characteristic elliptical shape, representing one of the finest examples of historical urban reuse; the Cathedral of San Martino (Duomo), an example of Lucca Romanesque architecture, houses the oldest wooden crucifix in the West and the refined funeral monument of Ilaria del Carretto, a masterpiece by Jacopo della Quercia; the Guinigi Tower, iconic for its hanging garden at the top featuring centuries-old holm oaks, a symbol of the prestige of the Guinigi family during the 14th century.
Return to La Spezia by minivan.
